Tuition Heartland offers a number of payment options to make the course affordable to everyone. Ask your administrator for information about school sponsorship possibilities.
**Infant/toddler students who do not have an Early Childhood certificate will be required to attend a pre-primary overview class (e.g., Montessori Fundamentals) if student has not already attended one. This is at an additional cost of $180.

  Infant/Toddler program consists of 248 hours of instruction and 400 hours of practicum.

The practicum phase of student teaching includes Monday-Friday, 3 hours/day.

Infant and Toddler Course Descriptions
The clock hours for the academic preparation for the infant and toddler certification program should total 248 hours of classroom time to be distributed from the beginning to the end of the academic cycle. This certification program also requires 400 hours of practicum over a period of nine consecutive months.
Environmental Design
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with the principles of environmental design for infant and toddlers. It will explore the multi-faceted approach to the needs of young children ages birth to three years of age. The aim of this course is to concentrate on the development of design parameters for a Montessori environment for young children ages birth to three years of age. A variety of concepts and modalities will be discussed with students. Current data regarding child development will be highlighted.
Child Development
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with the principles of physiological development of the child from conception through the age of three. This course will also explore the multi-faceted approach to the physical needs of the young child. One of the aims of this course is to concentrate on the developmental parameters influencing the child from pre-birth to three years of age. A variety of theories and concepts will be discussed with the students. Current data concerning physiological development will be highlighted.
Montessori Philosophy and Pedagogy

The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with Montessori philosophy and pedagogy as it relates to young children ages pre-birth to three years. The aim of this course is to emphasize the Montessori approach of respect for the developing potential within each young child. Current developmental research coupled with Montessori philosophy and pedagogy will be the focus.
The Child, The Family, and The Community
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with the principles of program development and parent education for infants and toddlers. The aim of this course is to concentrate on the developmental parameters influencing the child from pre-birth to three years of age, as they relate to care giving. A variety of concepts and modalities will be discussed with the students. Current data concerning family dynamics and parenting will be highlighted.
Observation
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the students with the principles of observation as it relates to infants, toddlers, and their families. The aim of this course is to concentrate on observation techniques in conjunction with the developmental parameters of the child from pre-birth to three years of age. A variety of concepts and modalities will be discussed. The creation of an observation journal will be highlighted.
Practicum
The function of the practicum phase is to provide for the student a supervised teaching and learning experience and a period of observation, internalization, and further study to bring together the theory and practice of Montessori education.
